Tournament Rules - MG Mixer 2020.

  1. The minimum number of players a team must field is 5. If playing with 5 players, the "phantom" rule applies.  Adding fill-in players for that team will be at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
  2. Should a team fail to field at least 5 players after the warm-up, 1st set is forfeited. If the team still fails to field a minimum of 5 players after a further 5 min wait, the 2nd set will be forfeited. Fill in players may play from the same grade, subject to tournament approval.
  3. A duty team must provide a minimum of 1x first referee, 1x second referee, 2x lines judge, and 1x scorer. Failure to do so will attract a penalty from the dutying team's game points in the ranking.
  4. For all mixed division games, a team must field a balance of 4 male and 2 female players. If not, the captain of offending team must nominate a 'female' player to equal an opponents male/female mix. These “female” players must not attempt to attack above the net; block; or jump serve. Breaching these restrictions will allow the opposing team to win the point.
  5. There is no restriction on the arrangement of male and female players in the rotation.
  6. Players already registered & playing in a team on Saturday are not permitted to swap teams or grades on the Sunday or fill in for lower grades.
  7. Mens & Mixed grade - All Saturday sets will be untimed but capped at 27 points (max) for a winning score. 26-all will trigger a golden point for 27-26 scoreline.
  8. On Sunday, in Mens & Mixed grade all losing teams will play a "sudden death" 1 set play off, and the losing team will be eliminated. Capped at 27 points (max) for a winning score. 26-all will trigger a golden point for 27-26.
  9. All Gold medal games (Sunday) will be untimed but still best of 3 sets of 25/25/15.
  10. If a game is timed, and the buzzer goes, & a point is being played, it will continue then count toward the scores. The game will then stop unless a golden point is needed.
  11. If 2 teams have a 1 set all tie, then the points will be added to get a winner. If points are also equal in a 1 set all tie, then a golden point will be played.
  12. Any 2nd sets that have a winning score of 15 pts and over (with 2pts advantage) will be deemed a winning set if the game is timed and the timer runs out.
  13. Any third set that has a winning score 8 pts and over with advantage of more than 2pts (if time runs out) will be deemed a winning set if the timed games ends.
  14. If a game is timed, there will be no timeouts in the last 5 minutes of play.
  15. Teams only have 1 timeout (90 secs) per set played.
  16. If teams finish at 1 set all, and equal on points, and tied scores in the 3rd set, a Golden point rule will decide the winner.
  17. A Golden Point is played if set and score counts are equal, and it is an equal points result --   then 1 point is played, after captains toss to choose for the serve. Play begins after the toss, there is no time out allowed. Winner of golden point will be the team declared the winner.
  18. Unlimited substitution rule will be applied to all divisions & games.
  19. When playing “best of 3 sets”, the 1st and 2nd sets will be to 25 points and where a third set is required, it will be first to 15 points – see rule 10.
  20. All disputes and protests will be dealt with by the Tournament Director and his/her decision is final.
  21. Net Heights, Women = 2.24m / Men & Mixed = 2.43m
